Girl Scout Gold Awards

Picture
The Gold Award is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn.  High school aged girls identify an issue or problem within their community, investigate the issue, plan a project to help solve that issue, and implement the project.  Gold Award projects involve a minimum of 80 hours of direct project work over the course of two to four years.  Gold Award recipients represent future leaders and role models who have a drive to make the world a better place.

More information about the Gold Award can be found here: Gold Award Information

Ariana (class of 2016) worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Austin to encourage more young women to explore STEM. She created curriculum to use at Boys and Girls Club workshops, as well as she taught her camp at the Anne Richards chapter of the club. After she finished her camp, she created a "STEM Hero" activity and coloring book that went along with her curriculum. The activity book is posted on this page for your use!

K5 Science Discovery

Picture
Amy (Class of 2014) focused on promoting a curiosity towards STEM topics among children ages 5-10 by creating the K5 Science Discovery project. The project encompassed two parts, a large scale event and a small group that held monthly meetings to explore STEM topics. The event portion was a huge success, featuring 8 different STEM groups and attracting over 300 attendees. The group portion consistently attracted over 20 children, and explored topics ranging from structures to genetics to reactions!
