Why we do outreach

FIRST strives to spread the world of STEM to students across the globe.  Girl Scouts strives to build girls' courage, confidence and character.

The Lady Cans are a combination of both organizations. We strive to introduce young women to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math principles while developing the skills to be successful in a variety of careers.
We are working towards making all areas of STEM available to young women.

The Lady Cans mission is to reach out to girls, one girl at a time.

Our most common outreach event is a demonstration, or demo. A typical robot demo involves building a KNEX car, driving a small VEX robot, listening to the experiences of the team girls, and interacting with an FRC robot.

We have attended many events, ranging from Brownie Troop meetings to college club activities, from local parades to our Sponsors' workplaces, from Girl Scout of Central Texas council wide events to commercial festivals. And we have especially enjoyed our time at the Women in Engineering's Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day hosted by the University of Texas at Austin.
For many years now, we have been given the opportunity to teach the GSCTX summer robotics camps. Our team members and mentors have worked hard creating a robotics curriculum that showcases the full potential of the Lego Mindstorms products and prepares the campers to enter the world of FIRST Lego League.  In addition to our robotics curriculum, we engage the campers in various team building activities, hands on activities, and friendships.
